Mud in the road, 23rd April

Hi Mud on the road on the road to Tollerton is terrible on a daily basis. This morning ot was thick and slick wet with rain making it a very slippery surface. Its better this evening as its dried a little but the farmers do nothing to clean up after themselves leaving the road dangerous. Tonight though, we have muck on the road from the fields where they are spreading it. Again, there is no thought to clean up after themselves. What can be done?

Dangerously Large vehicles and excess mud on the road, 8th April

Mon, 08 Apr 2024 11:21:30 +0100
54.066873 -1.288613

Extremely large vehicles, usually farm vehicles use these roads but they are not suitable for the size of the vehicles, being that they are wider than a single carriageway. There is little or no verge in places and tight "S" bends so oncoming traffic is blind to vehicles encroaching onto their side of the road. This is a danger to other road users because they span more than a single carriage way and are in danger of hitting vehicles coming in the other direction. Sometimes there are also pedestrians and cyclists and it is only a matter of time before there is a catastrophic incident with someone being seriously hurt or worse. This is the first concern. The second thing is that the roads are being eroded at the edge because of these large vehicles making dangerous potholes at the sides of the road - which are too deep for cars to maneuver through and so cause damage. Finally, with both of the above and tractors moving in and out of the fields, the road is constantly covered in mud to a greater or lesser extent. When it's freezing or wet, this mud is like ice and is a danger. The farmers do not automatically clean up behind themselves and the matter is getting worse. I've lived in the country for 52 years and have never seen the roads in such as bad state as they are now. We URGENTLY need a survey to consider widening the road into Aldwark Village from the York side as it cannot continue as it is. Thank you Charlotte Richardson

Urgent Request for Road Widening in Aldwark Due to Safety Concerns, 4th April

Thu, 04 Apr 2024 19:58:06 +0100
54.068736 -1.284694

I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to express my growing concern regarding the state of the road leading into Aldwark, a matter which I believe requires immediate attention to prevent potential accidents and ensure the safety of our community members, particularly our young, newly qualified drivers. The road into Aldwark has long been a critical infrastructure for our village, facilitating not just the commute of our residents but also serving as a vital conduit for agricultural activities. However, with the evolution of farm machinery, which has become significantly wider, the road now presents a hazardous bottleneck. The current width of the road is insufficient to accommodate the increased size and frequency of farm machinery traversing it throughout the year. This mismatch poses a considerable risk to road safety, especially to those unfamiliar with these conditions.Furthermore, the situation deteriorates markedly in the winter months. The combination of mud from the adjacent farmlands and the narrow road significantly heightens the risk of accidents. This road becomes particularly treacherous, compounding the challenges our community faces and exacerbating worries about our children's safety, many of whom are newly qualified drivers. Their inexperience, coupled with these hazardous road conditions, is a recipe for potential disaster.Given these pressing concerns, I strongly urge the council to conduct a feasibility study for widening the road. It is paramount that we preemptively address these issues before we are faced with a severe accident that could have been avoided. The safety of our residents and the preservation of our way of life in Aldwark must be a priority. Please consider this not just a request but a plea from a concerned resident worrying for the safety of their family and neighbours.Thank you for your time and consideration.

Large rut along edge of road, 19th March

Sun, 19 Mar 2017 15:03:50 +0000
54.050865 -1.312621

The edge of the road drops off, approx 70mm deep, 200mm wide and runs for 20 metres. I use the lane frequently with my young children, especially on bicycles this is had already caused multiple accidents. Also causes issues and poses a danger for car tyres/wheels giving room to walkers (single track road). Through spring summer foliage will likely cover the rut,

Hi I've just burst a tire because of a pothole on this road. The location I indicated on the map is approximate as it happened in the dark - but it was on the left and I was travelling towards Aldwark Bridge. I appreciate that this road is not designed to carry the amount of traffic that it is seeing at the moment, but please repair the dangerous holes (the number of which is growing).
