The North Bay is framed along its coast by the limestone cliffs of Cayton Bay. It's home to the Sea-Life Sanctuary, the Open Air Theatre, scale models of Scarborough's old ships and the cliff-top Peasholm Park. Other attractive landmarks include St Mary's church which has a striking Norman doorway and a 14th-century tower; the beacon on the Castle headland; the Art Gallery and the Grand Hotel, along with numerous eateries, bars, pubs and retail stores.

The North York Moors National Park is located west of the YO12 postcode and provides a diverse landscape from heather moorland, ancient woodlands and peaceful valleys to fast-flowing rivers and dramatic coastline. People can explore various hiking trails and bridleways.

The YO12 postcode is supported by excellent transport links throughout the district including excellent road networks for motorists, good train and bus services, and direct flights to and from Humberside Airport.
