It is part of the UB postcode area which covers the areas of South Buckinghamshire, Hillingdon, and Slough. The postcode district covers an area of 2.08 square miles and is divided into two post towns—Hillingdon and Uxbridge. It is mostly residential, though there are some commercial areas as well.

The postcode district is bounded by the UB4, UB5, and UB8 postcodes and the Hillingdon and Ealing boroughs. It is the main part of the UB postal area in the city of London. Its post town is Uxbridge, which is predominantly a residential area with some commercial areas. The postcode district is mainly residential, with the biggest concentration of homes being in the Hillingdon area. There are three major developments in the area. One is The Uxbridge Vineyard estate, which is a mixture of flats and houses. The second is the Stockley Park residential estate which consists of houses and flats. The third is Uxbridge Industrial Park, which is comprised of industrial and office developments.

Hillingdon is the main commercial area of the postcode district. It consists of a shopping centre, a leisure centre, a library, and several service-based services. The main shopping area is located at Hillingdon Shopping Centre which includes a variety of retail outlets as well as a supermarket and a cinema. Uxbridge Road is one of the main thoroughfares in UB6 and has a variety of commercial businesses as well as residential properties.

The postcode district is well connected to major arterial routes, with the M40, M4, and M25 as well as the Piccadilly and Metropolitan lines providing a fast connection to central London. The area is served by several bus routes and Uxbridge tube station. There are two train stations—Uxbridge Station and West Drayton Station—which offers routes to London Paddington and Reading respectively.

UB6 has good links to surrounding areas, with some of the major local attractions being the Tower of London, South Ruislip Lido, and Heritage Square Shopping Centre. Uxbridge also offers a variety of restaurants such as Italian, Indian, and Chinese, as well as pubs and bars. There are several parks within the postcode district including Hillingdon Sports and Leisure Complex, Grand Union Canal, and Eastcote House Gardens.
