The TD5 postcode covers the Tweed district of the Scottish Borders, encompassing the towns of Peebles, Innerleithen, Walkerburn and Cardrona, as well as some of the surrounding villages. The postal town for the district is Peebles and most of the area falls within the neighbouring parliamentary constituency of Ettrick, Roxburgh and Berwickshire. It has a population of around 33,000 people as of 2016.

The district has a long history of farming and other agriculturally based activities since ancient times, and is now known by its association with the production of cashmere, tweed and tartan. It is home to a number of large estates, including Traquair, which was first built in the 12th century and Bowhill House that has belonged to the Scott family for nearly 300 years.

The area also offers a variety of outdoor pursuits such as hiking, cycling, golf, fishing and horse riding, and its close proximity to the hills of the Scottish Borders and Scotland's largest lake, Loch Lomond, is also attractive to visitors.

The local economy is largely based around tourists, with the towns of Peebles and Innerleithen in particular benefitting from visitors coming to explore the countryside or to experience the unique Scottish culture. There are a number of traditional businesses, including wool merchants, antique shops, cafes and small guesthouses. Other industries in the area include IT, e-commerce, water engineering, and hydroelectric power generation.

The town of Peebles is home to the John Buchan Architecture School and Museum, which houses a collection of historic education materials and artefacts, and the school's library. There is a thriving and active community in the city, with a wide variety of events and activities, from theatre performances and music festivals, to guided walks and art classes.

Innerleithen has a long history of producing whisky and was once home to the towns first yarn mill, where cashmere sweaters were made. It is also home to the Traquair House Brewery, where a variety of traditional ales are brewed. Walkerburn is the most rural village, situated on the banks of the River Tweed, while Cardrona is a small village located just three miles from the Georgian border town of Berwick-upon-Tweed.
