The whole area is very densely populated, with a large proportion of people living in terraced housing.
From an economic point of view, Redcar and the wider TS11 postcode area are part of the industrial heartland of the Teesside district, largely based around steel and shipbuilding. As a result, there are a number of large employers in the area, such as Tata Steel and Fujifilm. There is also a thriving tourism industry in the area with coastal resorts, golf clubs and a racecourse all nearby.
In terms of culture and the arts, Redcar and the wider TS11 postcode area are home to a number of venues, including the Redcar and Cleveland Theatre, The Zone Youth club and the Linda Cowling Art Gallery. The area is also home to the South Gare lighthouse, which is a popular tourist attraction and is the last remaining Victorian lighthouse in the UK.
Aside from the industrial and tourist activities, the area is also home to a large number of community organisations, youth clubs and leisure centres, making it a great place to live for people of all ages.
