The postcode area includes the communities of Waunarlwydd, Bishopston, Olchfa, Gowerton, Fforestfach and Mayals. It also covers parts of the Gower Peninsula including Oxwich, Port Eynon and Rhossili.

SA64 is a mainly residential area, with a number of houses, apartments, flats and bungalows in the area. It is also home to Swansea University and Bay Campus, which attracts students and their families.

The postcode area is served by a number of local bus services, including the 362 and X6 routes, as well as a frequent train service along the Great Western mainline. The area is also close to the M4 motorway, making it easy to reach other parts of the UK.

The Swansea Canal, running between Swansea and Trenton, runs through the postcode area, offering a unique and scenic walk. Local parks include Mayals Open Space, which is an attractive part of the city with ample open space for recreation.

SA64 is served by a number of local shops, supermarkets, cafes, banks and other services within the area, as well as being home to a number of churches.

The area forms part of Swansea City Council's electoral wards of Mayals, Mawr and Glais, which all come under the umbrella of Swansea City and County Council.
