SA17 is a postcode in the Swansea district in the southwest of Wales. It covers the area roughly between Dre-fach in the south, Machynys and Pemberton in the west, Garnant and Gorslas in the east, and Ystradgynlais in the north.

SA17 is mainly rural and includes a series of small villages and hamlets such as Alltwen, Dyffryn, Glan-llyn, Pentre-chwyth, Pwllrhyd-y-mynydd and Ystradowen. It is a sparsely populated area with only a few scattered dwellings, but its landscape is dominated by rolling hills and wooded valleys.

The main tourist attraction in the region is the National Showcaves of Wales, situated near Ystradgynlais. This is home to the largest cave system in Britain, boasting underground rivers, gigantic caverns, and some of the oldest cave formations in Wales. Visitors can take guided tours around the caves to explore the extensive network and learn about its history and geology.

The area is also home to several well-timed public footpaths, including Fforest Way, Cwm Einion Way, Glyndwr's Way and Neath Valley Walk. These offer fantastic views of the stunning surrounding landscape, including various lakes, rivers, mountains and forests, along with wildlife and ancient monuments such as Bronze Age standing stones.

SA17 is in an area with excellent transport links by road and rail. Local bus routes run from nearby towns such as Llandeilo, Ammanford and Llandovery, while the nearest rail station is in Llangadog.

The postcode area also provides good access to a range of activities and attractions. These include activities such as boat trips on the sea, pony trekking in the hills, clay pigeon shooting and many more.

In terms of education, the area is served by a number of primary and secondary schools, such as Pantglas and Pentre-chwyth schools. Additional educational facilities are provided by Gorseinon College, which is a Further Education College located in the neighbouring town of Gorseinon.

The SA17 postcode area also benefits from a variety of local amenities, such as pubs, shops, cafés and restaurants. There are also post offices in the area.
