Contractors cars wrecking the grass verges, 7th October

Wed, 07 Oct 2020 22:51:54 +0100
51.80054 -0.36463

There was once a lovely house here, and now developers have put 3 executive dolls houses in its place. Worse still, there has been approx 10-12 cars and vans parked on the GRASS VERGE, and this is being damaged. The white hoardings also look a mess and like a 2nd world war bomb site. The vehicles also look unsightly and should be clamped. Since when has it been legal to park on a grass verge ? Harpenden is being systematically dumbed down brick by brick, make no mistake about it. Have some respect, Eric Morecombe once lived around here.

White vans and builders vehicles, 26th August

Wed, 26 Aug 2020 11:44:55 +0100
51.798754 -0.357108

This just makes the area unsightly, and there is almost never a time when there is not a skip 'on the go' or some other form of demolition or construction/building work. It is very tiresome and never ending, and makes the area Un-Posh. It was once a pleasure to see a tall pin striped stock-broker with bowler hat and briefcase in hand (and a pink paper) doing a silly walk down the road to catch a train. If you have any sense of humour, you will know what this means. P.s. is this the 2mm social distancing or the full 2 metres ? (I'm sure you will work this one out if you have seen a certain comedy series).

No dry access to bridge over river Ver Redbournbury, 25th July

Sat, 25 Jul 2020 11:53:00 +0100
51.785082 -0.377808

On one side (East) of the bridge, someone has alleviated the steps problem by creating a diversion path. Thanks for that. On the West side there is a new problem (see photo) in that there is now only a precarious wooden edge-board crossing about 2m of water. A hazard for walkers and nearly impossible for cyclists. Anyone with a pram? - forget it!

Pedestrian crossing partially submerged, 27th September

Fri, 27 Sep 2019 15:15:24 +0100
51.806925 -0.343133

The camber of the road shifts rainwater to the gutters at the entry and exit point of the pedestrian crossing opposite the Co-op in Southdown. Pedestrians with toddlers or pets struggle to access the crossing. Pedestrians approaching the crossing are often showered with spray from passing cars. The puddling is slow to disperse because the drainage is inadequate or the contours concentrate water at the crossing..
