Businesses in the area include Frogpool Manor Hotel, Lost Model Wines, Flex Fitness, The Yoga Room, and Preston North End Football Club. Notable organisations in the area include the North West Air Ambulance, Lancashire Wildlife Trust, and South Ribble Museum. Additionally, there are several nearby attractions, such as Avenham Park, Brockholes Nature Reserve, Preston Docks, and the Thursby Museum.

The area has also recently seen some development, with a significant new housing estate, Ashton Croft, being constructed nearby as part of the wider Preston Masterplan. This has seen the construction of over 140 new homes for rent and sale. Components of this development also include a Children's Centre, landscaped gardens, and areas of public space such as pathways and play areas.

The PR2 postcode is served by four railway stations: Preston, Kirkham & Wesham, Salwick, and Longridge. Additionally, it is also served by several regular bus services, the M6 motorway which passes just to the east of the district, and other local roads such as the Preston Theatre Bypass, the Broughton Bypass, the M55 Preston Bypass, and the A6 Penwortham Bypass.
