Having reported the error multiple times to Google maps vehicles from HGVs to towed caravans and expecially POLICE FIRE AND AMBULANCE find themselves directed on a single carriageway dirt track which requires HGVs to reverse back to escape and caravans too. It is clearly a huge error and reported by both Parish Council and residents but no help has been offered.we need Google to change the details. Sluice Road is the only access road usable and suitable for vehicular access

2 for the price of 1! inoperable street lights which have almost no markings., 9th March

Sat, 09 Mar 2024 21:36:06 +0000
52.602936 0.376694

Bridge Street, Downham Market. Opposite the Town Hall car park (on the opposite side of the road from the town hall). Not one, but two inoperable street lights, (see photos) The first is right opposite the car park barrier for AJ Coggles, the second has a rather pointless 'Town Hall' sign attached to it. Their numbers are POSSIBLY 929 & 930, but the markings on these lights, and others in the area, are virtually unreadable and in need of renewal, (again, see photos).

A1122 flooded again due to blocked gully, 9th February

Fri, 09 Feb 2024 16:29:46 +0000
52.599575 0.362182

This is a recurring defect. This gully was cleared fairly recently but it has blocked yet again. A1122 at junction with St John’s Way, Downham Market. Drain/gully in the centre of the roundabout, directly opposite the A1122 exit with the level crossing, is blocked or slow running, causing the roundabout to flood whenever there is rainfall. SEE PHOTO. Often, about half the width of the road floods, as in the photo, but in heavy rain the entire width of the road can flood. Being on a roundabout, this is a serious hazard, particularly to motorcycles.

Pothole has returned, again., 9th January

Tue, 09 Jan 2024 15:58:00 +0000
52.601399 0.34927

Lady Drove, Downham Market. Toward the A1122 end of Lady Drove, very close to the 40mph/NSL signs, (near Poplar Farm). This area has been repeatedly reported to NCC Highways because the road is collapsing and has become dangerous as a result. Vehicles trying to avoid the centre of the road where the degradation is at its worst, take to the edges of the road. As a result of this, a previously patched pothole at the edge of the road has again opened up into deep pothole. A further danger is presented by the lack of drainage at this location, so that any rainfall causes the formation of a large puddle which then hides the presence of this, significant pothole.

Highway obstruction and safety issues from building work, 9th January

Tue, 09 Jan 2024 15:16:31 +0000
52.603327 0.367487

53 Railway Road, Downham Market. The building that had stood here was demolished some time ago and the land was then left, (see attached photo from Streetview) Building work has now commenced at the site, with foundations being dug and groundwork under way. During most working days a mini digger is at work here, very often working from, (while parked on) the public footway. There are regular visits from lorries that also park on the public footway. In both cases the footway is made impassable to pedestrians as a result. The footway, even when not occupied by the works vehicles, is left is a muddy and sorry state. When work is underway, the footway is obstructed, with no signage at all and no alternative, signed safe route for pedestrians, with the result that they walk out into the road to get past the obstruction, often with their backs to the traffic. Most pedestrians are going to the railway station. When a lorry is parked here, it obstructs the view of the traffic lights at the stop line, and forces vehicles to wait far short of the stop line, meaning they do not actuate the traffic light sensor, so the lights take a long time to change causing traffic from the town to back up unnecessarily. It seems unlikely that those carrying out the work here have made proper arrangements with the hIghways authorities to accommodate this incursion, (doubtless to avoid paying the fees). Please can you attend to this situation before someone is injured as a result of the above.

Downham Market. A1122 junction with Railway Road at 'Heygates roundabout'. A manhole cover at this roundabout is loose and makes a loud clang when driven over. Additionally, the previously repaired surround of this manhole has again disintegrated and has formed a deep pothole around it, revealing sharp edges of the ironwork. See photos.

Road subsiding at its edges, 13th November

Mon, 13 Nov 2023 15:53:13 +0000
52.601172 0.352039

Lady Drove, Downham Market. Between junction with Black Drove and the end of Lady Drove, (junction with A1122). The edges of Lady Drove are subsiding badly, (both sides), into either the ditch or the field at the side of the road, (both of which are lower than the road itself). Please refer to attached photos. This report is only about that specific part of Lady Drove, but in practice similar subsidence is affecting many sections of Lady Drove. Traffic is increasingly being forced into using the middle of the road for fear of grounding*, (in the case of normal cars), or overbalancing, (in the case of HGVs** and motorcycles). * There are regularly new scrape marks on the road surface from where this has happened. **Numerous HGVs use this road daily. This situation has been reported to NCC Highways several times, (not just by me), and has been consistently ignored or dismissed, often with complacent and sarcastic comments, by whomever is responsible for this area, despite the obvious, present and increasing danger it presents to road users.

A1122 at junction with St John’s Way, Downham Market. Drain/gully in the centre of the roundabout, directly opposite the A1122 exit with the level crossing, is blocked or slow running, causing the roundabout to flood whenever there is rainfall. SEE PHOTO. Usually about half the width of the road floods, as in the photo, but in heavy rain the entire width of the road can flood. Being on a roundabout, this is a serious hazard, particularly to motorcycles. The flooding at this location seems to happen every Autumn/Winter.
