The town of Port Glasgow has undergone tremendous development during the last two decades, with the regeneration of the river's waterfront providing restaurants, shops, and accommodation.

Historically, Port Glasgow has many associations with shipbuilding, and the remains of the industry can still be seen in the town centre, with landmarks such as the Port Glasgow Dock Museum. It's also the birthplace of the shipwrecked East Indiaman, Earl of Mornington.

The area is also home to a number of historic buildings, such as the traditional Burgh Halls, churches, and castles, as well as a variety of museums and galleries.

The village of Devol Glen is a quiet and peaceful area, located about three miles from Port Glasgow. Home to the Devil's Glen and Devil's Cauldron Falls, it's also known for its stunning views of the River Clyde and the coast.

The smaller village of Wemyss Bay lies around a mile south of the town, at the head of the Clyde estuary. It's renowned for its tranquil atmosphere, and it's a popular destination for weekend getaways.

The area around Port Glasgow benefits from two main railway lines, providing easy access to Glasgow and other destinations. Additionally, there are bus services that link various town and villages. Several ferry services also run between the area and Scotland's islands.

Despite its fairly rural location, PA19 has plenty of shopping, leisure, and recreational activities to keep the locals busy, with a mix of modern and traditional restaurants, pubs, clubs, and libraries. It also offers sporting opportunities, such as golf and a large sailing club.

There are plenty of outdoor activities to be enjoyed, such as fishing, walking, and birdwatching. The nearby nature reserve, Anelog Nature Reserve, is also a great spot to admire the imposing scenery and diverse wildlife. Finally, PA19 offers two large parks, Kelly and Bells Meadow, for walkers and picnickers alike.
