The ML2 postcode area is located in the Motherwell postcode town region, within the county of Lanarkshire, and contains a total of 1040 individual postcodes.

The ML2 postcode covers the southern half of the town of Motherwell in North Lanarkshire, Scotland. Motherwell is located about 16 miles southeast of Glasgow and 11 miles west of Edinburgh. The ML2 postcode area also encompasses the nearby town of Wishaw and a selection of smaller villages such as Carluke, Cleghorn and Crossford.

ML2 is a postcode district in the ML postcode area which contains 27 postcode areas. ML postcode areas cover much of North Lanarkshire and a small part of the East Ayrshire local government district in the South Lanarkshire region.

The population of the ML2 postcode area at the time of the 2011 census was 44,252. Of these, 21,960 were male and 22, 292 were female. The median age was 36.3 years old, while one-third of the population was aged 15 or under, and 11.2 per cent were aged 65 or over.

Educationally, 88.2 per cent of the ML2 postcode area had achieved a level of at least NQ2 qualification (vocational, intermediate and advanced diplomas). The town of Motherwell is home to North Lanarkshire's main college, Motherwell College, which students from other countries often attend. Wishaw is served by Reid Kerr College which offers a range of academic and vocational courses.

The large town of Motherwell is home to many national companies, including the Royal Bank of Scotland, ScottishPower and Fujitsua Siemens Computers, as well as several smaller businesses. The town is also home to the largest steelworks in Scotland. In addition, there are several shopping centres and other amenities such as the Motherwell Leisure Centre and the Civic Centre, which is used for conventions and exhibitions.

The ML2 postcode has excellent transport links, with regular trains from both Motherwell and Wishaw railway stations and three railway lines – the North Clyde line, the Argyle line and the Shotts Line. The M74 motorway provides easy access into Glasgow City Centre and the central belt of Scotland.

ML2 is a diverse and vibrant area with a range of cultural attractions and leisure activities to suit all tastes. The nearby Wishaw Sports Centre hosts both community and professional sporting events, while Motherwell FC's stadium hosts football matches on Saturdays. There are also several theatres and revival houses, as well as a variety of live music venues.
