The postcode LE12 covers a large area, covering around two thirds of North West Leicestershire. It encompasses part of the spectacular Charnwood Forest, making it an ideal area for hiking, wildlife watching, and exploring. As well as this, it is home to a number of business parks, industrial estates, and small workshops.

The largest town in the area is Loughborough, which has the highest population within the LE12 postcode; however, the surrounding villages of Shepshed, Nanpantan, and Quorn are each home to a number of residents. The area has several primary schools, including Shepshed C of E Primary, Southfield Primary, and the Nanpantan Community Primary School. It has three secondary schools, including Loughborough High School, Ivanhoe College, and the Loughborough Grammar School.

This postcode area is well serviced by road and rail, with the area connected to the M1 motorway, the M6 motorway, and the A6 road. East Midlands Airport is easily accessed via the A6, while the nearby train stations allow access to numerous destinations across the country. The postcode also covers several bus routes operated by Arriva Midlands and East Midlands Buses, connecting the towns and villages of this area to the surrounding cities.
