The postcode DA16 is situated in the Dartford district of North West Kent. It covers parts of Erith, Slade Green, Northumberland Heath and Belvedere. It has a population of over 19,000 people, making it one of the busiest postcodes in the county of Kent.

The most prominent landmarks in the area include Slade Green station, an estate of shops along Gascoigne Road, and the Belvedere and Northumberland Heath cemetery. The area is mostly residential, although it does have some commercial activity at the Belvedere Industrial Estate, as well as the increasingly popular Slades Shopping Centre. This is a large outdoor retail park with major supermarkets, ten pin bowling, and a number of popular restaurants.

The DA16 postcode also covers part of the River Thames, and a number of beautiful riverside walks that offer spectacular views. The nearby Crossness Nature Reserve is a Site of Special Scientific Interest, and a designated Local Nature Reserve. Adjacent to this is the Crossness Pumping Station, which houses London's old steam operated sewage pumps and is now a museum.

In terms of transport, the DH16 postcode has its own railway station, and there are regular bus services to surrounding towns, including Dartford, Bexleyheath, Erith, Northumberland Heath and Woolwich. The nearest mainline stations are Bexleyheath and Woolwich Arsenal.

DA16 is in the London Borough of Bexley and is part of the constituency of Erith & Thamesmead. This also covers the towns of Belvedere and Northumberland Heath. Schools in the area include the Erith School plus Northumberland Heath, and Slade Green Primary Schools. Hall Place School is also located nearby.

Crime levels in DA16 have shown a moderate rise since 2009, which has been attributed mainly to burglaries and criminal damage. To counter this, the local police have mounted a number of initiatives such as 24 hour patrols, and increased CCTV coverage.

In terms of leisure, there are a number of parks and open spaces in the area, including Danson Park, Knee Hill Meadow and Rainham Marshes. There are also a number of sports and leisure centres, and tennis, football, cricket and bowls clubs. The Belvedere Golf Centre provides a dedicated 18-hole course, and there is a bowling alley and a leisure pool. The area is also home to Erith Yacht Club, the popular seafront funfair, and the Bexley Athletic Club.
