The CB7 postcode offers good transportation links to Cambridge and London, with several National Express coaches travelling daily to destinations such as King's Cross, Stansted Airport and Luton Airport. The A10 road also passes through the postcode, enabling easy access to Cambridge, Peterborough and other nearby towns and cities.
Ely is home to a variety of restaurants, pubs, independent shops, supermarkets, museums and churches, as well as Ely Cathedral and Ely City Museum. There are also regular markets and regular fairs, as well as a number of leisure opportunities at the Leisure Village, Ely Swimming Pool and Ely leisure centre.
There are many schools in the area, primarily maintained by Cambridgeshire County Council, with a range of primary and secondary schools. The area also provides a variety of higher education options such as City College Cambridge and Cambridge Regional College.
The surrounding villages are historically important too, due to a number of heritage sites that can be found in the landscape; including ancient churches and ruins, industrial heritage, and the remains of medieval and Tudor homes. Nature reserves and water meadows can be found in the area, with Soham Mere Royal Society for the Protection of Birds Nature Reserve being the largest of the bunch.
The local landscape is culturally diverse, with Ely having several cultural events throughout the year, such as the Ely Carnival, Cycling Festival and Festival of Food. The area also hosts a variety of outdoor activities, ranging from walking and cycling, to bird-watching and fishing.
