Secondary schools include Assumption Grammar School, Belfast High School and Oakgrove Integrated College. Tertiary education centres nearby include Belfast Metropolitan College, Belfast Bible College and Queen's University Belfast.

The area is well known as being part of the Northern Irish motorway network. It is also home to the National Trust site of Kilroot House, which is a public open space. It is also home to the nearby Trainview apartments, which is a popular rental area for families and students.

The area also has a range of leisure activities, including golf courses at Malone and Laganview, parks and countryside including Alexandra Park and Bowood Estate, and several restaurants and pubs for social gatherings.
