I've been working in Newcastle on and off for a few weeks now and I'm shocked at the severe level of fly posting in the town and the outskirts.
Newcastle is supposed to be this idyllic location by the sea and mountains. It's not. It's a complete mess awash with fly posters. Not pleasant for visitors or the residents.
Can you please get your clean neighbourhood team out to enact their powers under Article 18 to get notices served, and remove as required.
In particular I am calling out the 1:1 diet fly poster. This company has been a complete menace to the residents of multiple towns in NI with their fly posters. I have personally contacted the individual named on the poster with no response. I have personally contacted the Cambridge Weight Plan company (https://www.one2onediet.com/) to inform them but they have made no effort to remove them and are not being helpful at all.
Can I please request under the freedom of information act, the following:
For the last 3 years (2021, 2022, 2023-to date, please supply:
- Manager responsible for the removal of fly posters - Number of removal notices issued - Number of fines issued and paid/unpaid - Number of posters removed by the offender following notice - Number of posters removed by the council following notice - Amount of costs recovered for removal - Please break down by month and town/area within your jurisdiction
Looking forward to your help in this matter, and a general tidy of the illegal fly posters across the council area.

Illegal parking on double yellow lines, 15th April
As Newcastle gets busier going into the summer months there has been an increase in cars parking on double yellow lines along Downs Rd. This is causing obstruction to drivers and pedestrians entering and exiting Savoy Lane and Donard Place. It is also reducing the flow of traffic to 1 lane and causing a hazard to cars exiting Downs Rd carpark. Traffic wardens have been noted to ignore this area indefinitely, whilst ticketing other vehicles parked illegally on Main St.
