The postcode is situated in the northwest of the borough of South Staffordshire and is bounded by the postcodes WV6, WV11, WV12 and WV13. It is located close to the villages of Coven, Penkridge and Brewood.

The area of WV9 is mainly residential, but there is also a large industrial estate located south of the postcode. Here, businesses from many different sectors are present and these include a range of manufacturing firms and several engineering companies. The industrial estate also houses a number of warehouses and facilities for national and international logistical companies.

The area is also served by several bus routes including the 517 (Wolverhampton-Brewood) and the 349 (Wolverhampton-Coven). The nearest railway station is Codsall, which is on the London Midland line to Wolverhampton.

Locally, WV9 is served by several schools, including Brewood Primary, Brewersfield Primary, Featherstone Primary, Wombourne High and Fordhouses Primary. The area also has a Leisure Centre, Brewood Sports Club and Hill Top Golf Club, as well as allotment gardens.

The area boasts a vibrant nightlife, with lots of pubs and restaurants in the area. Brewood also host its very own annual beer festival. A number of parks are scattered around the postcode, with one of the most popular being Bryn Garden Park.

WV9 is a lively area of Wolverhampton, boasting a strong community culture, a range of businesses and services, several good schools and lots of activities for locals and visitors alike.
