The area is served by several bus and metro services, offering access to the wider district. Nearby are locations such as Monkwearmouth Railway Station, Grand Parade Play Park, the Biddick Woods Nature Reserve and the Sidlaws Local Nature Reserve. It also has good road links, including to nearby Railhills and coastline.

SR7 is a diverse area, with a variety of demographic groupings. The population – including both UK born and foreign born – is described as being diverse. Approximately 70-80% of the population is white British, and over 20% residents are of a BAME background.

In terms of education, SR7 encompasses several primary schools and one secondary school, Bede Academy, which is situated close to the site of the former Sunderland Technical College, the first specialist industrial college in the world.

SR7 is an area with a long and varied history, which continues to be reflected in its built environment today. It is a vibrant, multicultural area, with places to both live and work. It provides a range of amenities and services to make its residents' lives easier and more enjoyable.
