Repeated deliberate obstruction of highway., 10th September

Mon, 10 Sep 2018 20:48:55 +0100

Bridge Street, Downham Market. Parking bays outside Martin’s Newsagent, opposite the Town Square. These parking bays are repeatedly being illegally coned off at various times of the day, and regularly on Monday mornings at around 0900. The cones are placed on the public highway by Martin’s. When not obstructing the highway these rough, and obviously ‘unofficial’ cones can be seen stored in the public area of the shop. Please can you ensure this repeated obstruction of the highway by a private company is stopped. Thank you.

Road dangerously uneven. People driving on the other side to avoid, 14th August

Tue, 14 Aug 2018 12:05:32 +0100

A PERSISTENT PROBLEM. The quality of the road outside of Poplar Farm is dangerous. It is not even and drivers are moving to the other side of the road to avoid this bouncy roadway. We need the council to totally rebuild the road (Perhaps arrange for the lleylandii on the roadside to be removed as they are causing the road to subside) - NOT to just re-tarmac but to BULK IT UP to ensure a flat drivable surface. PLEASE? This has been going on for a number of years now and all that happens is that its re-tarmaced. We deserve a good and proper repair job to be completed on this nuisance piece of road.

Lady Drove, Downham Market. Just within the 40 limit at the Downham Market end of the road, just before the large patch on the road. There are severe undulations in the road surface as you head away from Downham Market. Can be difficult to see but easy to find when driven over. In the photos the undulations contain water. Please fix urgently, potentially dangerous.

Obstruction of road and pavement, 12th July

Thu, 12 Jul 2018 23:24:10 +0100

Outside The Swan Hotel and WH Smith/Post Office, High Street, Downham Market. Traffic cones keep appearing here, sometimes in the road and sometimes on the pavement. There are never any roadworks associated with them. They are an obstruction to the highway and to pedestrians, not least because they tend to be moved to differing locations, probably by those who have enjoyed the hospitality of The Swan. Please can these be removed as a matter of urgency. Thanks.

Broken manhole cover causing trip hazard, 7th July

Sat, 07 Jul 2018 21:29:06 +0100

Railway Road, Downham Market, right outside Knicats the Baker. This manhole cover has been broken for some time and keeps sinking or moving out of place. Member of the public often push it back in place only for it to move again. Sooner or later someone will fall over it , or a well-meaning member of the public will be injured trying to push it back into place. Please will you repair or replace it before that happens.

Pavement cluttered by faulty bin and the rubbish spilling from it., 1st July

Sun, 01 Jul 2018 00:58:22 +0100

High Street, Downham Market. Pavement between the old HSBC bank and the pointless taxi stand. There is a litter bin sited on the pavement that will not remain closed (see photo), despite many people trying to close it. This results in an obstruction of the pavement due to the swinging door and the escape on to the highway, of the rubbish within the bin. Please attend to this problem. If you decide that you believe someone else should be dealing with it, please forward this report to them, whomever they may be.

Continued dangerous subsidence of the road surface, 1st July

Sun, 01 Jul 2018 00:49:06 +0100

Lady Drove, Downham Market. A1122 end, just within the 40MPH limit. Heading away from Downham Market and toward Barroway Drove, just BEFORE the area of road that was patched at the end of June 2018 there is a deep depression in the road surface, perhaps caused by subsidence. This defect is really difficult to show in a photo, but very easy to feel when driven over in a car. (You will also see skid marks on the road here). The defect is a real suspension breaker and a substantial danger to motorcyclists. Why the hell it was not repaired when you patched the nearby area is anyone's guess. Please attend to this urgently, it is a potential killer. This defect was specifically reported to NCC on 27 09 17, see: https://www.fixmystreet.com/report/1115283 - NCC ref ENQ-83057-N3T8W0, and again on 20 10 17, see: https://www.fixmystreet.com/report/1129584 - NCC ref ENQ-101520-V2K2G2

Downham Market, junction of Bexwell Road (Eastbound) and the A10 (Northbound) at Bexwell roundabout. There is a footpath between the armco and the hedge that is supposed to give a safe route to pedestrians. The path is overhung and obstructed by the hedge as you will see from the photos. Please arrange for it to be trimmed as a matter of urgency.

Giant Hogweed near footpath, actually with reach of people., 13th June

Wed, 13 Jun 2018 20:04:35 +0100

~6 - 8feet tall hogweed growing near a footpath. You are obviously busy because none of the dangerous overgrowth on Elizabeth avenue has been addressed in over a year. When the obstructed rights of way on Elizabeth Avenue are all sorted (3 of them) I'll fill you in on the Giant Hogweed location so you can sort that out. I wouldn't want to tax your obviously stretched resources with yet more maintenance work.

Stray traffic cone causing problems for pedestrians., 12th June

Tue, 12 Jun 2018 16:13:26 +0100

The people of Downham Market, (especially those of advanced years, poor eyesight and reduced mobility, - or indeed all three), are constantly harassed by this peripatetic traffic cone that likes nothing more than getting in their way. At the time of reporting, it is making a nuisance of itself to anyone who wishes to go near to the Town Clock, but it is often to be found at other locations nearby, (usually not more than about 20 yards away). Please could you collect the offender and rehabilitate it before reuniting it with its family. This will be much appreciated by all those to whom it has been a problem, as well as ridding the area of this unnecessary clutter. This cone is NOT marking any area of works or of surface degradation, it is just a pest. Sincere thanks.

Obstructed right of way, 9th June

Sat, 09 Jun 2018 17:47:10 +0100

Right of way obstructed. Signs and path markings are unreadable. Shocking the council have left it ignored for years like this. Use exact locations: Footpath to and from Snape Lane / Nursery Close. Say how long the issue’s been present: Over 3 years. Solution. Remove the overgrowth COMPLETELY until the boundary fence is exposed. Give pedestrians 100% of their footpath back. Don't waste tax money "trimming" the overgrowth.

Concrete bollard knocked partly over, 30th May

Wed, 30 May 2018 00:43:37 +0100

Just off Bridge Street, at The Hollies car park, is a concrete bollard that appears to have been pushed over by, one assumes from its weight, an HGV. The bollard looks rather unsafe, especially given that it is concrete and therefore very heavy. I am not sure from its location if this is a highways or a car park matter. If it is a car park rather than an highways problem, please would you forward this report to Downham Market Town Council, (if it is they who are responsible for the repair). Thanks.
