Banbury is the largest town in the OX17 district, and is the biggest manufacturing and commercial centre in the region. Founded in the 13th century, it is now the home of many different organisations, including the British Motor Heritage, the Banbury International Raceway and the Chipping Norton Brewing Company. The town also has a rich history, having formerly played a major role in the English Civil War. The OX17 district also plays home to the award-winning Cotswolds Distillery, where a range of spirits are distilled.
Also within the district is the ancient market town of Bicester, which dates back to Saxon times. It is the home of Bicester Village, a luxury outlet shopping centre, home to more than 130 designer brands, alongside a number of other shops and restaurants. Bicester has a small airfield, and is the centre for gliding activities in the area.
Chipping Norton is a picturesque market town located in the north-eastern corner of the postcode district. It boasts a medieval parish church, St Mary's, which dates back to 1221, and is a popular destination for walkers and cyclists looking to explore the surrounding Cotswolds Hills.
Hook Norton is a picturesque village located in the south of the OX17 district. Its most famous attraction is Hook Norton Brewery, which was established in 1849 and is still producing traditional ales to this day. The village also has a 14th century parish church and a handful of pubs, restaurants, cafés and shops.
Finally, Witney is the largest settlement in the OX17 area, and is a popular destination for tourists looking to explore the surrounding Cotswolds landscape. The Oxfordshire Museum and the Witney and District Museum are popular sites in the town, alongside its luxury outlets and independent shops. The town is also home to many leisure activities, such as swimming, golfing and walking.
