The district covers part of the town of Wellingborough and parts of the villages of Great Doddington and Wilby in Northamptonshire, England. It was introduced in the 1990s as a replacement for the old non-geographical NN postcode area. The NN8 postcode district is bounded on the south-west by the NN9 postcode district and on the east by the NN7 postcode district.
The area served by the NN8 postcode district includes parts of Wilby and Great Doddington as well as being adjacent to the towns of Rushden and Higham Ferrers. It is well connected to the rest of Northampton due to its location close to the A45 and A6 trunk roads, as well as the Midland Main Line railway.
The NN8 postcode district is predominantly residential, with many small businesses located to the north of Wellingborough. There is also an industrial estate situated in the south-west of the postcode district. Much of the area consists of private residences and small businesses.
The Wellingborough depot of Royal Mail is located within the boundaries of the NN8 postcode district, and the Wellingborough Transporter Bridge is within its boundaries as well.
NN8 is served by a number of bus services run by Stagecoach, with many services passing through Rushden and Higham Ferrers, and some services going as far as Bedford, Luton and Milton Keynes.
The NN8 postcode district is also the closest postcode district to the National Memorial Arboretum in Alrewas, which is the UK's national site of remembrance for people killed in conflicts.
