NE23 has a mixture of private and public transport links. The A1 and A19 are nearby, offering easy access to Newcastle upon Tyne and its surrounding towns and cities. The Tyne and Wear Metro system serves the area, offering commuters access to Newcastle upon Tyne and elsewhere in Tyneside. Direct trains also run to both Newcastle and Sunderland from Longbenton.

The postcode district is home to a range of educational facilities, including primary and secondary schools as well as nurseries and further education institutions. The Longbenton Community Sport Centre, which offers a range of activities including a swimming pool, tennis courts and fitness classes, also located in NE23.
