There are 10 electoral wards in the NE18 postcode area, including Alnwick, Ashington, Bamburgh, Bedlington, Belford, Blaydon-On-Tyne, Blyth, Boldon Colliery, Chathill, Choppington, Corbridge, Cramlington, East Boldon, Gateshead, Haltwhistle, Hebburn, Hexham, Jarrow, Morpeth, Newbiggin-By-The-Sea, Newcastle Upon Tyne, North Shields, Prudhoe, Riding Mill, Rowlands Gill, Ryton, Seahouses, South Shields, Stocksfield, Wallsend, Washington, Whitley Bay, Wooler, Wylam which come under the local authority of the Northumberland Council.

NE18 is a postcode in the Newcastle upon Tyne District covering areas such as Greenside, Garrigill, Eastburn and part of Ebchester. It mostly covers rural areas, with some small villages and towns, however it borders less rural postcodes such as NE19 and NE17, giving it a few suburban areas.

The area has a mix of housing types, mostly detached with some terraced houses and some new housing developments as well. The area also has a large amount of countryside, with a mixture of agricultural land and woodland areas, for example, South Giant's Wood near Chopwell.

Transport links in NE18 are not as good as in certain other places in the area, with the only public transport links being a few bus routes covering mainly the village of Greenside and Eastburn, and with the closest railway station being Wynyard station, which is outside the postcode. Nonetheless, NE18 is well-connected to the road network, with the A694 travelling through it to provide good access to Newcastle and the A68 to provide good access to the North of England.

A few local businesses have set up shop in NE18, mostly in small villages or beside the A694, including local shops, pubs, takeaways and a local village hall.

There are plenty of activities to do in NE18, with its rural and woodland landscapes providing plenty of opportunities for walking, cycling, horse riding and other outdoor pursuits. It is also home to a few historical sites, such as Ebchester Roman Fort and Ebchester Castle.

NE18 is a largely rural and quiet postcode, with plenty of scope for outdoor activities. It is well connected to the national road network, though public transport is limited. It has potentially good opportunities for local businesses, as well as interesting historical sites, indeed making it a great place to live and visit.
