Schools in the area include two primary schools; Eltham Church of England Primary School and New Eltham Primary School, as well as Eltham CofE Secondary School and Bexley and Greenwich Sixth Form College. There are also a range of nurseries including Eltham Montessori Nursery and Mottingham Kindergarten.

The Greenwich Meridian is located in Eltham and there is an observatory run by The Royal Observatory Greenwich. The observatory has a range of interactive exhibits, including the tallest planetarium in the UK.

Local activities and attractions vary, ranging from the Eltham Palace, a 1930s Art Deco house, and the historic Eltham Library, which dates back to the 1800s. Sports are popular locally, and there are several clubs available in the area, from football to diving, as well as organised sports provided by The Eltham Centre.

The area also offers an array of churches, including St John the Baptist Church, which dates back to the 14th century, and the Church of St Mary the Virgin in Mottingham. Finally, the area is known for its green and pleasant surroundings - Eltham Common, Oxleas Meadow, as well as Oxleas Woods are popular areas for outdoor pursuits such as walking and cycling.
