Mon, 04 Mar 2024 14:50:08 +0000

Regularly find Goods vehicles parked here blocking the road, also parked at the end of the above 2 roads making leaving them dangerous because of obstruction to sight, its been like this for quite a while now and it's on a bus route which makes it worse, also on Kendal Parks Crescent itself, people regularly park on or opposite dropped kerbs

Blocked bus stops, 28th February

Wed, 28 Feb 2024 04:04:54 +0000
54.310999 -2.728628

The bus stops on Kendal Parks Road are being blocked by multiple vehicles parking inconsiderately in a daily basis, contravening the Highway Code in distances from junctions and the direction in which the parked vehicles should face in relation to the carriageway. This is making it extremely difficult for members of the public to safely cross the road when accessing public transport and also for local buses to safely pass by properties and cars

Inconsiderate parking, 28th February

Wed, 28 Feb 2024 04:04:46 +0000
54.310992 -2.728642

Inconsiderate parking directly opposite driveway is making it increasingly difficult for residents to safely access and exit their driveways. There are an increasing number of vehicles left here for multiple days meaning residents find it dangerous to safely reverse into their driveways and also exit them.

Due to vans parking it’s impossible to avoid. Also it seems most driving schools seem to use the road as a training ground adding to the problem of avoiding it. Heavily used road which used to be private .

Dangerous for pedestrians, 20th August

Sun, 20 Aug 2023 15:10:05 +0100
54.312368 -2.727558

Valley Drive, Kendal, where the tarmaced and will used footpath crosses.l, near to the junction with Linnet Grove. This is now a regular occurance, most evenings and every weekend. The footpath leads from a children's playground on the corner of Kendal Parks Road, down to Valley Drive. Across the road a further path leads to the children's football area and a bit further to another playground and to the community Beck Centre. It is very well used especially with children and dog walkers. The parking here, especially the large vans, makes visibility for both pedestrians and motorists really dangerous. Anyone with dogs or with a pushchair really struggles and young children are especially vulnerable. It is also on the raised speed bump. We URGENTLY need either a crossing or yellow lines here for at least the length of the raised area before a serious accident happens.

Overgrown verge creating sightline difficulties, 14th July

Fri, 14 Jul 2023 14:09:12 +0100
54.308331 -2.731699

After our last submission to Fix My Street, The verges on Whinlatter Drive were attended by South Lakeland Council ostensibly to address overgrown verges and restricted sightlines. The work was carried out but the height of the hedge on the verge creating the restricted sightline which has caused a number of near misses and is causing the most difficulty for residents at Numbers 19 and 21 Whinlatter Drive has barely been lowered. Whinlatter Drive to the left of the exit from numbers 19/21 falls away into Kirkstone Close. This hedge between Nos 19/21 and 23 restricts the view, from numbers 19 and 21, of vehicles coming up from Kirkstone Close until they are close to our houses. The hedge was lowered by South Lakeland Council staff, when they came to improve sightlines, from 1.2mtrs to 1.15mtrs. I have measured all the other verge hedge heights from 19/21 to Oxenholme Road and they all measure between 0.5 and 0.65mtrs. The verge hedge between numbers 19/21 and 23 Whinlatter Drive is twice the height of the other verge hedges in the street but has the most important sightline. And should be the lowest of them all. Could South Lakeland Council please attend and lower this verge hedge height to be the same height as the other hedges on the street (or lower), or explain why this hedge should be twice the height of the other hedges despite creating the most restricted view. Attached are a set of pictures which show how far out into the road we have to drive before we can see traffic coming from Kirkstone Close – I have circled a car on Kirkstone Close to show how difficult it is to see with the current hedge height.

Overgrown verges between 17 Whinlatter Drive & 23 Whinlatter Drive, 21st June

Wed, 21 Jun 2023 10:11:22 +0100
54.308392 -2.731741

Verges(with shrubs) not maintained to the agreed level, meaning a number of near misses when exiting driveways and Hardknott Drive, also growth across the pavements. Generally on The Oaks estate grass is cut regularly, but verges with planting, shrubs and trees are left to grow wild. Roots are lifting the tarmac pavements in places. In addition the cycle way from Whinlatter Drive to the hospital has been narrowed by overgrown shrubs and trees. This is an ongoing problem, easily solved by some cutting back, or preferably verges replaced with grass.

Suspect blocked surface water drains, 22nd December

Thu, 22 Dec 2022 11:11:12 +0000

When it rains heavily a torrent of surface water flows over the two grids and down into the village. The grids have been cleared but I still suspect the drain itself is blocked across to the sewer. (which is probably 12 feet or so deep down the middle of Long Meadow Lane) Can these short drains not be rodded to clear them into the main sewer ??

During the summer the traffic bollards near the canal bridge at Millbeck Lane, Kendal LA9 7LH were removed to provide access during the road closure when telecom contractors Viberoptix were installing cables etc. for the Fibrus broadband network. The bollards were eventually replaced but the base of the middle one requires tarmac etc. and the job completing.
