The following problems have been reported on Fix My Street within 2 miles of LA9 (Lancaster):

Neighbours have erected bollards to block the access lane so they can park there cars in it., 1st July

Sat, 01 Jul 2017 11:05:13 +0100

This is an access lane for access between Aynam Road back lane through to Wilson Street. Two neighbours off nether Street have erected these two bollards either end of the lane, secured with a padlock which they open and park there cars. They both have parking permits to park on nether Street and Wilson Street but park blocking this access lane instead. On questioning the guy you get threatened, vulgar verbal abuse and told where to go. Neighbours have said to him police will be called if threats continue. A child ran into one bollard, also it is stopping emergency vehicles getting through. This lane is rear to the two neighbours properties aswell as all of ours. He has no permission or right to do this, it is not there land.. The bollards were erected two weeks ago, the lane now has sloppy cement mud and bumps everywhere, it looks like an industrial lane not our home.

Regular illegal parking blocking the pavement, 24th August

Wed, 24 Aug 2016 09:02:12 +0100

You'd think with 3 lanes of traffic, a large car park on the riverside and loads of parking between the buildings and the pavement that pedestrians would be given SOME consideration. Every day somebody will park up completely blocking the pavement, forcing pedestrians onto the road. More than once I've been driven at whilst walking on the pavement, and abused for daring to be in the way of the person driving along the pavement at speed. The area outside the chip shop seems to be the worst. Could double-yellows be painted along there? or something to discourage mounting the pavement? Armadillos? That might at least slow people down and discourage the use of the pavement to undertake northbound people turning right into the common land.

Junction of Underwood & Brigsteer Rd is dangerous, 24th August

Wed, 24 Aug 2016 08:56:14 +0100

The junction here is badly cut up. Around the manhole covers, the tarmac surface has collapsed. I've seen cars making odd maneouvres to avoid the edges of the manhole cover. There's also gravel being pulled out from the potholes and distributed all over the road. However, as a cyclist, the junction is truly frightening when descending Brigsteer road. Trying to turn into Underwood is a lottery - a wheel will either slide on the gravel, skip on the ridges or get caught on the edge of the manhole. The only vaguely safe approach is to remain on the left, almost stop dead before turning right. this positioning suggests heading straight on, which is likely to cause confusion to motorists and could lead to a collision. The drainage at this point is also bad, resulting in a large, deep puddle every time there is any reasonably heavy rain.

Dangerous utilities repair, 9th May

Mon, 09 May 2016 14:54:03 +0100

Despite reporting immediately after the utilities repair made on Milnthorpe rd at the junction with Glebe Rd, nothing was done at the time (3 or 4 years ago). The joint started falling apart within a few days of the work completion. This has since been filled several times. The result is a patchwork of road levels, causing damage to vehicles, potential loss of control and further damage to the road.

Bad road surface and dangerous manhole, 9th May

Mon, 09 May 2016 14:37:35 +0100

At the junction of Hartside Rd and Stonecross road, there is a manhole cover around which the road surface has disintegrated for a large distance. This has resulted in several sharp exposed edges on the manhole. The state here could easily lead to a tyre blowout and loss of control.

Road surface falling apart, 9th May

Mon, 09 May 2016 14:35:12 +0100

At the crossroads of greenside, High Tenterfell and Bankfield Rd in Kendal, the surface of the road is badly damaged. The whole junction is covered in loose gravel, large potholes, raised ironwork and old patches. This makes turning at that junction hazardous for cars. I regularly also cycle on this junction and have come close to losing control due to the surface. Rather than turning, I will generally head to the junction at the top of beast banks and come back on myself for safety. The bad surface is for such a distance that it is dangerous to be braking anything more than gently on the approach to the junction. I always ride this well out from the kerb so that cars on Bankfield Rd or High Tenterfell will see me, so thankfully I have not yet had to test control in an emergency stop. I have seen car wheel leave the road at this junction as a result of the surface defects.
