Currie also offers access to the Pentland Hills and is the home of Auchinstarry Quarry, an important wildlife site.

Balerno is a small village located on the outskirts of Edinburgh near the Pentland Hills. It is a well-heeled area that boasts easy access to Edinburgh's large parkland and the River Almond. A range of shops, cafes and restaurants are located in the village centre with the local Primary School, Balerno Primary School, serving the village.

South Gyle is an area of Edinburgh that is located between Gilmerton to the south and Ratho to the north. It is a well-connected business and commercial hub, with access to Edinburgh Airport and the Gyle Shopping Centre. The area offers good access to cycle and walkways, and is home to a variety of restaurants and pubs.
