It is directly bound by the A1 motorway, and is around a 40-minute drive from both Newcastle and Sunderland. DV3 postcode areas are made up of residents with diverse backgrounds that reflect the four main metropolitan boroughs of County Durham.

The area is primarily a residential district, with newly built developments popping up in recent years. Residents can find a range of desirable housing options: from terraced-style homes ideal for first-time buyers, to spacious detached properties with fantastic garden spaces.

Within a short distance of DH3 are a number of schools, including Oxclose Community Academy, Biddick Academy and Usworth Grange Primary School. The district is also close to excellent quality healthcare, with Washington Model Primary Care Centre and Maternity Unit – opened in 2006 – and Chester Le Street Hospital both within reach.

For leisure activities, DH3 has plenty of options. Lumley Castle and its Dark Age hill fort provide an interesting afternoon out, as do the local wildlife parks. Rainton Meadows Nature Reserve is a local favourite, boasting a wealth of flora and fauna, including bats, reptiles, amphibians and British birds. Those after something more active could head to South Pelaw Cricket Club or take a trip to the nearby gym.

When it comes to shopping, DH3 postcode areas are able to take advantage of the nearby city centres of Newcastle and Sunderland. The Metrocentre in Gateshead offers a range of high-street retailers and brand-name stores, as does the Bridges Shopping Centre in Sunderland.
