For leisure activities, DH3 has plenty of options. Lumley Castle and its Dark Age hill fort provide an interesting afternoon out, as do the local wildlife parks. Rainton Meadows Nature Reserve is a local favourite, boasting a wealth of flora and fauna, including bats, reptiles, amphibians and British birds. Those after something more active could head to South Pelaw Cricket Club or take a trip to the nearby gym.
When it comes to shopping, DH3 postcode areas are able to take advantage of the nearby city centres of Newcastle and Sunderland. The Metrocentre in Gateshead offers a range of high-street retailers and brand-name stores, as does the Bridges Shopping Centre in Sunderland.
The area is also well connected, allowing for easy access to the North East Coast and, further afield, Edinburgh and London. Rail links are also easily accessible from nearby Washington Station and Chester-le-Street Station.
