The most common place of birth of residents of DY2 was England; with 8.3% (higher than the West Midlands minority average) born elsewhere. The area has an average level of educational attainment, with fairly consistent rates of higher education throughout the postcode area.

The economy of DY2 is built on relatively low levels of employment and wages, with the average waged especially low. The area's most prominent industry is manufacturing (17.3%), as well as transport and storage (5.0% of the workforce).

In terms of NHS performance, DY2 resides within the Coseley, Gornal, and Sedgley localities of the Dudley borough. It is largely served by the Russells Hall Hospital, which serves the entirety of the Dudley borough, and has a long waiting times for emergency and urgent care. Rates of mortality and life expectancy are lower than national averages, with 5.4% of the population qualifying as obese.

Data from the 2011 census for DY2 identified some areas for improvement for infrastructure and social amenities, including limited access to green space; a strong concentration of car ownership; and lower levels of educational attainment.
