The CO8 postcode is in the Colchester district in the county of Essex, England. It covers an area of approximately 95 square miles and has a population of around 138,000. The postcode is predominantly a residential area but is also home to large commercial, leisure and industrial employers.

The CO8 postcode is broken into smaller areas which are each known by a two-letter suffix, such as CO8 5AA and CO8 6AH. Each of these smaller areas contains around 2000 postal addresses and the whole of the postcode area includes approximately 28,000 postcodes.

Colchester has two parts to its postcode; the CO postcode (for Colchester) and the 8 postcode (CO8). The CO postcode, CO1-CO9, covers the area of Colchester itself while the 8 postcode is for the rural and semi-rural areas surrounding it.

Colchester itself is an historic town in Essex dating back to Roman times. The region is known particularly for its Roman ruins and is home to attractions such as the Colchester Castle, which was built in 1609.

The CO8 postcode area is generally made up of dispersed villages and rural areas although there are some small towns such as Wivenhoe, Brightlingsea and Ardleigh. It also includes the port of Harwich, as present day Harwich is part of the historic Harwich borough which, prior to 1974, lay within the borders of the county of Essex.

The area is also home to some beautiful countryside, with areas such as Stour Valley being of particular note. Further attractions to the area include the Dedham Vale AONB, the North Essex marshes and the waterways of River Colne, River Stour and River Orwell. The area is also known for its wildlife with seals, swans and storks regularly seen along its coasts.

The small local arts scene in CO8 postcode is ever growing, with local art galleries such as White Canvas in Ardleigh and the Colchester Arts Centre presenting unique and exciting performances. The area also has several theatres and a thriving music scene, with the likes of Dunmow Colchester Playhouse and the Breckland Theatre providing a range of entertainment.

In terms of educational opportunities, the area is home to numerous primary, secondary and grammar schools with popular independent schools such as Felsted, Monkwick and Ursulines providing high quality education in the area.

The CO8 postcode is ideally situated to take advantage of the many wonderful attractions Essex has to offer. Its close proximity to major cities such as London and Lowestoft, and its access to the south east's coastline, makes it the ideal location for those looking to get away from it all.
