Cotham is a small, diverse student area known for its independent shops and restaurants. Bishopsston is a mostly residential area, with a sizable student population. The Northern Slopes area is a popular park, with playing fields, recreational spaces, an educational farm, and sculptures.

The BS6 postcode is served by the Bristol City Council for local government. There are several pubs, restaurants and shops in the area, including Stokes Croft for its colourful street art and buzzing nightlife. The Clifton Suspension Bridge, which connects Bristol to North Somerset, is also in the area, as are several parks, including Brandon Hill and the Clifton Down.

The local Oxford, Bristol and South Gloucestershire branch of the National Association of Citizen's Advice Bureaux is based in Clifton, offering advice to residents on a range of issues. There are also numerous education options for those living in the BS6 postcode area, with Redland High School, Cotham School, Clifton College and Bristol City College all being based nearby.

The area is also served by two train lines - Clifton Down and Montpelier - which have regular services going into the city centre and beyond, as well as several bus stops and several cycle paths for residents to get around.
