Keynsham is the largest settlement within BS40, and is most notable for its beautiful riverside park and its historic High Street. There are a number of independent shops, cafes and pubs in the area, as well as a weekly farmers market. Keynsham is also home to Morleys Wood, a nature reserve with an area of about 10 hectares.

Saltford is a rural village located in the BS40 postcode, near the river Avon. It is a small village, with a population of around 3,500 people. Saltford is known for its traditional pubs, historic buildings, as well as its 12th century manor house, Saltford Marina, and the nearby salt marshes. There are also regular activities held in the village, such as the annual Saltford Festival.

Farmborough is another village in the BS40 postcode, and is known for its 13th century Church of St. Barnabas. Farmborough is a small village, with a population of around 600 people. It is surrounded by rolling countryside, and is a popular destination for walkers and cyclists.

In addition to the three main settlements, there are also several villages within the BS40 postcode, including Whitchurch, Pensford and Upton Cheyney. These villages are mostly rural in nature, with a small number of houses and shops.
