The area caters for many leisure activities, with opportunities for sport, walking and outdoor recreation. Muntz Park, Brookvale Park and Steward St Play Centre are popular playgrounds for children, while Aston Hall and Park offer a tranquil setting for adults in need of green space. B18 also has a number of shopping areas, including Brookvale Shopping, Lozells Road Shopping and the Bull Street Shopping Centre.

B18 is known for its rich cultural heritage, evident in its music, art and cuisine. The area has produced a number of prominent musicians, including Jasper Carrott and Bev Bevan of The Move, as well as members of the renowned pop and rock band UB40. It also hosts Artsfest Birmingham, an annual community festival celebrating local talent in the fields of music, theatre and art. The area is renowned for its selection of traditional local dishes, including the infamous Balti curry.
