The HP9 postcode covers three different areas around the Hemel Hempstead District in Hertfordshire, England. The postcode is made up of three parts; the 'H' denotes the Hemel post town, the 'P' shows the area of the district assigned to and the '9' denotes the relevant sector.

The first area is the town of Chipperfield which sits within the Chiltern Hills. It was earlier a rural village but now is mostly residential. The large house of Chipperfield Manor dominates the village and has been around since 1179. The area has a cricket pitch, allotments, a village hall and a tennis court.

The second area is Bovingdon, a commuter suburb of Hemel Hempstead and the third is Flaunden, a small rural village surrounded by farmland and woodlands, located at the bottom of the Chiltern Hills. Flaunden has the remains of a 13th century chapel.

The HP9 postcode is served by the neighbouring post office branches in Berkhamsted and Hemel Hempstead where Royal Mail provides postal services to the local and national markets.

The district includes neighborhoods such as Forty Green, Larum and Potten End. The area is home to a number of schools, medical centers, and recreational areas; these include Chequers Hill Primary School, Two Waters Secondary School, Flaunden Church of England Primary School, and Chipperfield Common.

The area has great public transport links due to its proximity to the M1, the major motorway network in the United Kingdom. It is also served by two rail stations, Chipperfield and Bovingdon, that provide regular services both to London Euston and Birmingham New Street.

There are a number of businesses and shopping centers, including the High Street in Bovingdon, Solus Retail Park, and The Leys which have a range of supermarkets, department stores, restaurants, and entertainment venues. There are also plenty of community facilities, such as the Co-Op store, library, public park and a dentist.

The most popular local attractions and events include the Chipperfield Summer Fete which showcases the village's history and culture, and the Bovingdon Scarecrow Festival which attracts hundreds of people from around the county.
