The BA9 postcode is a modern postal code used by the British Postal Service within the Bath district. It covers a large area on the south-western side of Somerset, bordering Wiltshire to the South and the Mendip Hills to the North East, and stretching from Wincanton and Gillingham in the West to Warminster in the East. The area contains some small villages and hamlets such as Salisbuty, Mere, Wincanton, Castle Cary and Bruton, as well as the larger towns of Shepton Mallet and Warminster.

The land within this area is mostly rural in nature, making up part of an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Amongst the main attractions in this part of the country are the ancient stone circles at Avebury and Stonehenge, as well as Longleat House, home of Lord Bath. The hills are a haven for walkers and ramblers, with plenty of woodland and open access areas, and there are numerous country gardens to visit as well.

The area is well served by public transport including links to the cities of Bath, Bristol, Salisbury and London, and it is also easily accessible from the M4 and M5 motorways. Airports in the surrounding area include Bristol, Heathrow and Southampton, as well as Exeter and Cardiff.

The local economy is based on traditional farming, tourism, light industry and retail. Amongst the industries located in this area are a brewery, cider makers, growers and a variety of small businesses. There is a strong emphasis on arts and crafts, with several local galleries, shops and creative businesses.

Educationally, the area is served by several primary schools and secondary schools, as well as a further education college in Wincanton. The University of Bath and Bath Spa University are both within easy reach of BA9, and Bath itself is known worldwide for its fine education establishments.

In terms of leisure activities, BA9 offers plenty of opportunities to explore the local countryside, and there is a wide range of activities for people of all ages. From golf courses to cycling tracks, there is plenty of outdoor fun to be had. Meanwhile, the area is also home to several pubs, cafes, restaurants and entertainment venues for those wishing to stay close to home.
