GU34 is served by the Alton and Alresford railway stations, connecting passengers between London, Farnham, Alton, Southampton and Winchester. There are also bus services linking Guildford, Farnham, Alton, Winchester and Basingstoke. The district has its own secondary school, Alton College, which is located in the centre of Alton and serves the area of GU34.
The overall economy of GU34 is economically active and diverse, with industries such as retail and finance, professional services, agriculture, and gas exploration. Agriculture and horticulture are the key sectors in the area, with farms and vineyards, private gardens, all-natural products and nurseries.
The area also boasts a variety of recreational activities, including several national and nature reserves, such as Alice Holt forest and many country walks and trails, as well as fly fishing and sailing at the water parks of Fleet, Frensham, Odiham, and Winnall. The city of Winchester is within easy reach of the district, where visitors can explore the grand cathedral, art galleries and many independent shops and restaurants.
